| If you have a plane, getting to the Evergreen Air Museum
is easy. Just fly into the McMinnville
Airport, go to the FBO and ask for a ride to the Museum. A staff
member will come to the airport and pick you up.
I found that you can easily spend a day there. The highlight,
of course, is the Spruce Goose, otherwise known as the H-4. A pair
of doors are installed, just forward of the wing on the port side so you
can go inside the mammoth fuselage to experience size of the cabin.
For an extra $50 you can take a guided tour of the cockpit. The
wingspan of the H-4 is 320', a hundred and nine feet longer than the
747-400!
Not to be missed is the IMAX presentation of, "The Legends of
Flight," in 3-d. Perhaps this is what 3-d technology was made
for! The movie is filled with spectacular, in your face, graphics
and internal views of Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner.
The building with the 747 on top is a work in progress. It is
to be a water-park so there will be even more family activities in the
future. The Evergreen Air Museum is obviously an endeavor that is
not without resources. All the buildings are new and facilities are
first rate.

| How about an Atlas rocket
engine. Not impressed; okay, what if I tell you that it's attached
to a full sized Atlas rocket, mounted vertically? |
I would like to meet the pilot that
landed this B-747 on top of that building. Those Evergreen pilots
are something! |
Now, does anyone recognize this
aircraft? What if I mention Tom Cruise - does that help? |
| The Twisp
Airport Courtesy Car |
| The airport courtesy car is back in
service for the summer. The town of Twisp no longer wanted to
"own" and support the car so it now belongs to the Twisp Airport
Improvement Club. This means that we also have to insure it and pay
all the expenses. So....if you
use the car and it was beneficial to you, please consider leaving a
donation in the lock box to help keep the car in operation. Thank
you! |
Thanks to all, for
your generous support!
| The "Gold
Star Club" is active
again. A solicitation was made to the Twisp Airport tenants for
donations to the Twisp Airport Improvement Club. As usual a number
of people were generous and made donations to improve our current
financial condition.
Donations were made by the following
aviators: Clifford Hulk, Glen Wooldridge, James Richards, Joe Johnson, Mary Mattison,
Morgan Smith, Sandy Beebe, John O'Keefe, Don Owens, Mike Port, Dave Sandoz,
Mike Palm, Bob Howson, Mike and Dee Real, and Debbie Bair.
A $200 donation was
"suggested" and some generous people doubled the amount.
We received donations from $25-$750 for a total of $3675 to date.
This will allow us to complete some of the projects that are pending.
The new north side paving and the new building are both paid for, and we
have funds to relocate and upgrade our irrigation pump system. |
| Could
it be true? Confirmed! It is true! John and
Jeanette have been flying
all over in their new helicopter.
|
| Mike Port has been
busy, as you can see by the pictures below. The
Stearman fuselage is the last part to be covered and will be done in
February. The workmanship is meticulous and attention to detail
exact. This will be a flying piece of art! We can hardly wait
to see this big, beautiful airplane flying out of the Twisp Airport this
coming summer. |

Much
progress - ready for cover! |
You will
hear it roar by this summer! |
| The wing center section -
yes, it's a big airplane! |
The wings - covered,
painted, and ready to install |
The instrument panel is
now complete |

A little known fact!
Bob Hoffman is one of our local flight instructors. He owns a very nice
Cessna 175 Skylark (modified) that he gives flight instruction, and biannual
flight reviews in. Now, this is the good part. When Bob gives a BFR
he charges the student for the airplane time, but does not charge the trainee
for his instructor time. It is expected, however, that the trainee will
make a contribution to the Twisp Airport Improvement Club. Thank you Bob!

Progress on the RV-7 has been a little slow this summer as
there are too many outside activities. I guess it is a matter of
staying focused - something I have never been very good at! Anyway,
here are a few more pictures of the airplane. I just hope someone
can tell me what all those wires are for. Hmmm, I think I knew what
they all were for sometime ago. That is what happens when you lay
off a building project for too long.
I have high hopes for progress this winter. I have been hung up
on how to label the switches, circuit breakers, and other items on the
instrument panel. I spent several days attempting to make "dry
transfer decals" and finally gave up on that system. My latest
idea is to order engraved placards from a professional panel engraving
company. I have high hopes for this idea!
RV-7 UPDATE: The instrument
panel is finished with the two new EFIS screens installed. Both batteries
for the electrical system are installed and so far the electrical system works
as planned. The new Hartzell propeller is now installed. Work is now
beginning on the cowl and will be followed by the engine baffles.
